Site Update and Modifications

[First Name],

I need to give you all some updates on scheduling and procedural changes that we’re making immediately to remain compliant with Federal, State, and Local Orders while in this State of Emergency.

I just posted an update on the front page of the BBS website…please take a look at it for details that I’m not going to include in this email (since they’re available on site). Short version: Meck County Health Director Ordered Gyms, Fitness Centers, Health Clubs, and Theaters to cease operations immediately.

Please read this next sentence very carefully: In response to this Order, BBS is closing the Fitness Area to the Public (effective immediately).

BBS is NOT closing…we’re just closing our Fitness Area to the Public, in compliance with the Order. BBS will be following the lead of many others forced to cease their public fitness services…we will be filming content each week to upload to the website. Members are invited to assist with filming a segment…we will send an email with instructions if you let us know you’re interested.

Our Massage Therapy will remain open (with restrictions detailed further down the page), our Services will remain open (more on that further down the page), and all of our retail, charity, and community support will continue (modified to remain compliant).

BBS will continue to do everything we can to empower YOU to maintain and improve your mental, emotional, and physical well-being…while under the incredibly stressful conditions imposed during this State of Emergency.

***If you are running a fever, have a dry cough, have difficulty breathing, and/or diarrhea…please call your healthcare provider immediately. Do not come in to BBS.***

THERAPEUTIC SERVICES

Therapies are in private rooms and we are following CDC guidance on disinfecting after each use (using EPA approved cleaners from this list:epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2). More time will be needed between therapy sessions due to increased cleaning protocols, which will reduce the number of available sessions each day. Members will have priority if requests exceed availability.

MASSAGE THERAPY

As a Massage Therapist, I am licensed to practice by the North Carolina Board of Massage And Bodywork Therapy under Chapter 90 of the North Carolina General Statutes, with assigned License Number: 5618. I am registered with the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System as a non-physician provider with assigned National Provider Identifier: 1538697057.

For those advised by their health provider that continued therapy is essential for their health and well-being, I’m obligated by my oath and honored to continue working with you while we remain under this State of Emergency (while following increased safety protocols).Routine appointments will be postponed, please call our office with any questions.

There’s a citation on the BBS site that quotes Johns Hopkins with stating:

Therapeutic massage incorporates a variety of advanced modalities that enhance the body’s natural restorative functioning. Therapeutic massage can be used as a collaborative, supportive addition to conventional medical treatment of illness and injury, alleviating pain and stress, aiding soft tissue healing, and revitalizing the body.

Research has shown that therapeutic massage techniques may be helpful in the following conditions: Stress, Anxiety, Depression: promotes relaxation response, enhances coping mechanisms in patients undergoing treatment for cancer, reduces symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress disorders…Pain control: fibromyalgia, arthritis, sciatica, headaches, childbirth…Chronic lung disease: increases respiratory function and decreases anxiety…Digestive: adjunctive therapy to treatment of chronic constipation…Injuries: overuse and repetitive strain injuries, workplace and athletic trauma, whiplash.

If you have a massage appointment coming up, I would ask 2 questions:

1) Do you feel that massage therapy has helped you recover from illness and injury, or has it alleviated pain and stress?

2) Does your doctor advise you to seek treatments that help you recover from illness and injury, or that alleviate pain and stress?

If your answer is “yes” to both questions, then you should keep your appointment. If not, you should postpone until after the State of Emergency ends.

LAST THING

When Leaders are trying to get a large group of people to practice and support a concept that the Leaders believe is VITAL to the health, safety, and survival of the group…it’s CRUCIAL that the concept is named correctly.Unfortunately, they totally dropped the ball by using the term “Social Distancing”…it’s horrible…it conveys the wrong message.

So, in an effort to help better convey the intended concept, I have decided that I will NO LONGER USE THE TERM SOCIAL DISTANCING…from now on, I’ll use PHYSICAL DISTANCING.

We need to be connecting with one another right now, MORE THAN EVER…not creating MORE SEPARATION.Physically, we need to allow some space to make it more difficult for the virus to leapfrog through us all…but do NOT allow the virus to create SOCIAL distance between us.We can write letters, actually talk on the phone or video chat, play a brain-game app together, and even stand outside near one another (but not too close).

In the spirit of REMOVING Social Distance while MAINTAINING Physical Distance, BBS will be following the lead of the restaurant industry by creating “BBS Take-out” and “BBS Delivery”…stay tuned for details and how you can participate (you’re gonna LOVE it!!!).

Yours in Health,

Christy
